Benefits Of Breastfeeding

One of the most important decisions a pregnant woman will make is the choice to breastfeed. Breastfeeding benefits not only the baby, but also the mother in so many ways. That is why our Doylestown OBGYN strongly encourages our patients to breastfeed. Here are some of the reasons why.

Benefits Of Breastfeeding For The Baby breastfeeding

  •  Breast milk is easier to digest.
  •  It contains all the necessary nutrients your newborn requires.
  •  It is always available!
  •  Breastfed babies also obtain increased protection against infections.
  •  Breastfeeding can help prevent SIDS (crib death).
  •  It also can provide lifelong prevention for diabetes, asthma, obesity and some cancers.

Benefits Of Breastfeeding For The Mother

  •  Breastfeeding assists in weight loss after pregnancy.
  •  It reduces a woman’s lifetime risk of breast and ovarian cancers.

We support the mother’s choice, and strongly that she discuss her decision about nursing with us during her OB visits so that we can assist our patient in making an informed choice.
