When To Call the Emergency Line

At the Doylestown Women’s Health Center, the health of you and your baby is always our top priority, and in the event of an emergency, we are here to help. Our team of Obstetricians, Gynecologists, Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, and healthcare professionals are here to provide you with the support and care that you need to make it through, so the first thing that you should do in the event of an emergency is call us. If you think that you have an emergency, do your best to remain calm and follow the directions below for both during or after our office hours to connect with one of our physicians. 

 

Emergencies During Office Hours:  

Monday – Thursday   (8:30AM to 4:30PM)
Friday                         (8:30AM to 4:00PM)

If you are in LABOR or have an EMERGENCY, please call (215) 340-2229 and press 2. You will be directed to the nurses who will want to speak with you directly to better assess your situation. Once the nurses have a clear understanding of the situation, they will guide you through the next steps that you should take. If you have any questions about what you are experiencing or what to do, the nurses will be more than happy to provide you all the information you need. 

After Office Hours and Weekends:

If you experience an emergency outside of our normal office hours listed above, please call the office line at (215)-340-2229 and follow directions for Labor or Emergency.  The Answering Service will take your information and refer it to the on-call physician who will call you to assess your situation. The physician will ask you a few questions to gain a better understanding of what you are experiencing, and guide you on what to do next. They will also work with you to schedule an appointment for an in office visit at the soonest available time for a more thorough examination, or to provide the necessary treatment and care for the emergency. 


What Classifies As An Emergency? 

While there are many things that can be scary, painful, or difficult during pregnancy, there are certain situations that classify as an emergency and require medical attention as soon as possible. Emergencies include:

  • Entering Labor
  • Leaking of fluid
  • Decreased fetal movement
  • Preterm labor
  • Fever that does not resolve
  • After falling or a car accident
  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Persistent vomiting (5 times a day)
  • Fainting
