Women are also referred for a mammogram and bone density test, depending upon each woman’s individual risk factors and age.

Girls between the ages of 13 and 15 should start getting well-woman checkups as this is when most girls begin going through puberty. Pelvic exams are typically only performed on girls younger than 21 if they have a problem such as pain or an unusual vaginal discharge.
