What to Expect During Your Second Trimester

The second trimester starts around the 14th week of pregnancy and continues until week 27, and it brings some major changes both for you and your child. Your baby will undergo major physical changes and developments during the second trimester including the development of senses like taste and hearing, a heartbeat that's audible for the first time around week 20, and even the first kicks around week 21.

You'll also experience some significant changes in your own body. While it's not the case for everyone, many women experience relief from some of the nastier symptoms of early pregnancy like nausea, low energy levels, and sore breasts. But you'll also find new symptoms developing as your baby grows and your body changes. Some of the most common pregnancy symptoms during the second trimester include:

  • Congestion
  • Gum sensitivity & gingivitis
  • Leg cramps
  • Swollen feet and ankles
  • Dizziness
