Get Healthy in 2015!

Welcome 2015! It is the New Year and, of course, it is a good time to think of making New Year Resolutions. Let's make a few of them and keep them simple and doable.

1. Drink more water
2. Keep moving
3. Eat more fruits & vegetables

Drink more water. Water is the major component of blood. It is good for keeping us hydrated. It is good for the skin. It has no calories. If you need to flavor it, add a slice of lemon or lime, or an herb such as mint, or even a slice of cucumber. Certainly we have a beverage with our meals. How about having some water in between? Keep a water bottle by the desk or in the car. When you see it, take a sip from it.

Keep moving. The recommendation is to do some sort of exercise most days of the week. But we need to start some time… How about one weekday and one day from the weekend? If time does not permit, stop whatever we are doing for the moment and do a stretch. Raise the shoulders to the ears a few times. Extend the legs and rotate the ankles clockwise a few times and then, the other direction a few times.

Eat more fruits and vegetables. It is hard this time of the year, now that the harvest season is long gone, to find local fresh fruit. Dried fruits are a good substitute. If you are still hungry after the first helping, give yourself another portion of vegetables. Have a piece of fruit for dessert.

And if we forget we had made these resolutions, or if the initial momentum has worn off, none of these are that difficult to resume.

Have a healthy new year!
