Are you prone to anxiety or fear when it comes to doctor’s office and important health analyses? Here at Doylestown Women’s Health Center, it is our goal to help you remain as comfortable and at ease as possible during your appointments. The idea of a gynecology appointment may initially make you feel uncomfortable and anxious, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Your health and happiness are at the top of our list, and we are proud to be a comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic practice with incredible health care professionals that will do anything in our power to make your life easier and your experience more enjoyable. We have come up with a list of tips to help you have a calm and more enjoyable gynecology appointment:

  • Find The Best Women’s Health Specialist: Ask your friends and family members for recommendations on great women’s health specialists, or research patient reviews online. Knowing your personal areas are in the best hands may help to ease some of your anxieties around the matter.
  • Ask Questions: Write down questions beforehand if you have any so you remember your exact concerns going into the appointment. You may also want to write down notes during your appointment so you won’t have to worry about remembering everything correctly later on.
  • Understand Your Body: If you haven’t taken the time to learn about the different parts of your body, this might be the perfect time to do some research. Some people feel more in control when they feel they have a better sense of what they are afraid of. This being said, try to refrain from looking up every possible disease or infection that you might be experiencing- let your doctor be the one to diagnose!
  • Deep Breaths: Breathing deeply during your appointment can be an extremely helpful way to ease your stress and anxiety. Taking even a few deep breaths sends a message to your nervous system to calm down, which controls the rest of the body’s involuntary functions. Controlled and deep breathing can cause physiological changes to your body including lowered blood pressure, reduced levels of stress hormones in the blood, and increased feelings of calm and wellbeing.
  • Have A Family Member or Close Friend Accompany You: Openly explain how you are nervous about your appointment, and don’t be afraid to ask someone to join you. Schedule your appointment at a time they are available, and have them there to talk to you and hold your hand if it would make you feel better!
  • Be Open About Your Nerves: Explain to your gynecologist how you are feeling, so they have a better understanding and can make a special effort to ensure you are as comfortable as possible. They can explain in greater detail what they are doing, or try to help in whatever other ways they can. We always want you to feel comfortable talking to us, so please let us know if you are particularly anxious, afraid, or uncomfortable during these types of appointments!
