Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is a special month for us here at Doylestown Women's Health Center – and no, it has nothing to do with Halloween! October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and as a proud provider of pregnancy care, OB/GYN services, and comprehensive healthcare to women throughout the Bucks County area, we are passionate about honoring and celebrating this important holiday. The breast cancer awareness movement has fundamentally changed public perception of cancer – and it continues to make a positive impact through initiatives like Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Wider Impact of Breast Cancer Awareness

On the surface, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is important because it draws attention to an important cause. Excepting skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer for women, making it a critical place to focus research and find a cure. The breast cancer awareness movement has raised and stimulated countless dollars towards breast cancer research, and it's also brought preventive measures like regular screenings into the public consciousness, helping to increase the chances of early detection and treatment.

But the impact of the breast cancer awareness movement goes beyond breast cancer alone. Truly, the breast cancer awareness movement caused a sea change in the public discussion around cancer. Breast cancer awareness helped to increased cancer awareness as a whole, helping to bolster similar movements like prostate cancer awareness and research on cancer more generally. Thanks to the initiatives for breast cancer awareness, the public understands the need for prevention and for regular cancer screenings, giving everyone a better chance at beating cancer.
