A Healthy Pregnancy

Maintaining optimal health throughout your pregnancy is vital, both for your own health, and your baby’s.

If you have recently discovered that you are pregnant, you should begin taking prenatal vitamins. If you’re planning to become pregnant, taking prenatal vitamins now is also a great way to help prepare your body for pregnancy. However, before you start taking prenatal vitamins, talk to your OBGYN in Bucks County about any other vitamins, supplements or medications you are already taking to ensure they won’t interact negatively with one another.

Aside from taking prenatal vitamins, Your Doylestown OBGYN recommends the following tips for a healthy pregnancy:

  • Consume foods high in protein, calcium, and iron
  • Exercise at least 5 days per week, for 30 minutes
  • Avoid consuming foods that contain mercury (common in some types of fish)
  • Do not drink, smoke or use illicit drugs
  • Avoid coming into contact with pesticides, cleaning products, and other substances high in chemicals that could potentially harm you or your baby

A good rule of thumb to follow is to avoid any substance, activity or environment that could be harmful to you or your unborn child. If you’re in doubt, avoid it—as it’s not worth the risk.
